Position Available: UAEM North America Communications Fellow
UAEM North America is offering a part-time communications fellowship for a student or recent graduate. This 6-month fellowship will be an exciting opportunity to put your skills to the test, to pilot and prototype new ideas, and to gain hands-on experience with grassroots campaigning across North America and the globe to advocate for access to lifesaving medicines.
The fellow will learn about UAEM’s campaign work involving subjects such as global health, intellectual property, human rights and policy research, as well as non-profit development, communications, event planning, and organizing at university campuses for social change. This position is ideal for anyone with experience in graphic and web design, (digital) communications, media and press outreach, and/or PR and non-profit branding as well as a strong interest in communications and campaigning via universities for equitable access to essential medicines for all.
Objective: Provide research, writing and editing support to the UAEM team while providing practical learning experience to an applicant interested in communications and campaigns on global health and the access to medicines movement.

Time Commitment: 10 hrs/week
Duration: 6 months, February-July 2025
Location: Remote, anywhere in the United States or Canada
Duties: The communications fellowship will work closely with UAEM staff and the UAEM communications team - in particular with the Executive Director. The fellow will provide day-to-day research support and meet project-based needs as they arise.
Produce daily content for UAEM’s social media platforms, and content 2x per week for UAEM email development.
Contribute to the writing, editing, formatting and production and updating of electronic and printed materials on Campaign-related topics.
Contribute to the writing, editing, and publishing of blog posts and emails.
Work with staff and students to build general administrative support as required.
Support communications initiatives as they arise in response to the developing global health landscape, including conducting research and summarizing relevant information, building an external media and social media strategy, and updating the organization website with new materials, features and resources.
Train and consult student activists in effective communications / design theory and practice.
Attend meetings on nights and weekends in EST.
Compensation:
$7200 over a 6-month period.
Open to proposals as well, for consideration by the UAEM Communications team and executive director.
Required Skills & Expectations:
Relevant experience in communications, social media and/or design.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, and experience in developing different types of content for different audiences and mediums including press releases and appealing social media posts.
Excellent attention to detail, organization and coordination skills.
Strong research skills and proficiency in drawing relevant information from highly technical content and “translating” highly technical content into appealing and simple (visual) messages, and/or have experience in copy-writing.
Full command of the Google suite of products, Canva, and Social media tools.
Commitment to the public interest, with an interest in medical humanitarian aid and the struggle for access to essential medicines.
Preferred:
Graphic design and layout skills, including familiarity with Canva.
Ability to work independently on a number of separate, simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
