UAEM North America Urges Senate HELP Committee to support Reasonable Pricing

In a letter sent to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, UAEM North America asked for the committee to to require that companies price medical products developed with federal government support (via the CDC or BARDA) so that they are priced reasonably, at least as low as prices available in other G7 countries.

Reasonable pricing clauses have a long, storied history in U.S. government contracts pertaining to prescription drugs, yet without clear Congressional authority, these programs are often limited in scope, or even discontinued. in our letter, UAEM lays out some of that history, including the use of affordable access plans at universities in 2023, and the importance of these policies to secure a return on investment for taxpayers and publicly-funded agencies.
