Wanted: Student Web Developer - McGill

UAEM (Universities Allied for Essential Medicines) Chapter of McGill is looking for students to help develop a website for a social innovation project. If you are interested in community service and want a chance to receive free mentorship from a professional web developer, this is your opportunity!  

What is Donations Tracker?

Donations Tracker is a website that will track donations in Montréal. It will allow Montréal-based organizations to request for donations and organizations/individuals outside of the city to provide them. The website also features a virtual map that will show which regions are in high demand of donations, essentially allowing us to visualize the local disparities in Montréal.

Current Progress and The Role of the Student Web-Developer 

The principal components of the website are complete, and student web-developers will be responsible for the following:

  • 5-10 hours per week during the summer (may vary depending on the circumstances) 

  • To stay on the project after the summer to lead the web development team (1-2 additional people)

  • Minimum of 1 year of commitment (i.e. until May 2025)

  • Debugging/Responding to errors after the website has launched  

  • Implementing updates to the website after it has been launched 

  • Communicating with the professional web-developer regularly to learn how the website is run

  • Contributing to the final parts of the website

Eligibility

  • Competency in: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Docker, MongoDB, Mongoose

  • Below are factors that aren't necessary but are highly encouraged.

  • Experience with production code

  • Internship in software/software development 

  • Competency in: Nodejs, Express
