UAEM North America Submits Comments on Transforming Discoveries into Products: Maximizing NIH’s Levers to Catalyze Technology Transfer

On July 31, 2023, the National Institutes of Health hosted a virtual workshop to discuss policies and practices that shape biomedical innovation and promote access to NIH-funded discoveries.

Panelists discussed how NIH, as a research institution, approaches the patenting and licensing of biomedical invention and the agency’s role in the broader biomedical research enterprise in promoting the application of knowledge to enhance human health.

UAEM North America Executive Director, Justin Mendoza, presented at the workshop in the final panel of the day. Following the discussion, workshop attendees and the public were invited to submit comments to the NIH on the content of the workshop. UAEM submitted comments focused on licensing, affordable access policies, reasonable pricing, and transparency in NIH’s actions.
